Cycle to work schemes may be a great way to keep workers in health, but they are not the only measure companies can take.
Developing corporate sport teams could provide people with an opportunity to exercise and one expert has pointed out there are a lot of other employee benefits having physical activity groups at work can bring.
The Plymouth Half Marathon is introducing a new category this year – The Corporate Challenge – which will see firms compete against each other to win a prize in the endurance race.
Kirsty McLatchie, who is part of the team putting on the event, said: “The current economic climate is particularly testing to everyone, so anything companies can do to encourage a group spirit can only be helpful.”
The teambuilding effects of such sporting events can help improve the bond and focus of a group of employees, while it could even provide something fun to talk about with clients, or even get them involved in, that may improve business relationships.
Furthermore, entering competitions often helps raise money for charities, with the official organisations associated with the Plymouth Half Marathon including the Children’s Hospice South West and Cancer Research UK.
